Utility Operations Consultant

Job Description:

Location: This is a hybrid position open to candidates anywhere in the U.S.; however, for the first engagement, the selected candidate must travel frequently (50-75% of the time) to a client site in California.

Are you an experienced Utility professional with deep expertise in electric utility operations, field and grid operations business processes, and industry best practices? What You’ll Do

In this role, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of electric system operations by working closely with utility leaders, operations teams, subject-matter experts, and instructional designers to develop and deliver advanced training and consulting solutions.

 

Your Impact

  • Consult & Advise: Work directly with operations leaders to identify skill gaps, optimize job processes, and enhance workforce performance to address current challenges and sustain future success.
  • Enhance Utility Business Processes: Provide expertise in “To Be” process design, business outcome alignment, and performance improvement strategies across various operational groups.
  • Develop Training Solutions: Partner with instructional designers to advise on the creation of role-based job/task analysis, training content, and scenario-based simulations for Electric Distribution Operations.
  • Drive Operational Excellence and Readiness: Evaluate training effectiveness and operations readiness, refine training strategies, and ensure utility clients receive top-tier workforce solutions.

 

What You Bring to the Team

  • Utility Industry Expertise: We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience in the electric utility industry who has held a variety of roles across operations, including exposure to the control room and management, providing a deep understanding of utility workflows, challenges, and best practices.
  • Consulting & Strategic-thinking: Proven ability working with cross-functional teams (utility executives, managers, and technical teams) and implementing effective strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with SCADA and Outage Management Systems, including ABB, OSI, GE, or Schneider Electric systems and tools.
  • Strong Communication: Ability to present technical content, lead discussions, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Business Acumen: Understanding of utility business operations, regulatory requirements, and workforce development trends.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to analyze complex utility operations, identify gaps or inefficiencies, and ensure accuracy in reporting, documentation, and process implementation. Strong focus on quality control, compliance with industry regulations, and precision in executing strategic initiatives.

The compensation range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making hiring and compensation decisions. These factors include, but are not limited to candidate skill set, consulting experience, training and education, competencies, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Mosaic strives to set salaries at, or near the 50th percentile (midpoint) of the range and it is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the range for the position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $150,000.00 to $190,000.00. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus program of up to 8% of annual compensation. The bonus program is dependent on a variety of factors including organizational and individual performance.
